Moon Seed Library
Welcome to the Moon Seed Library!
The Seed Library is located in 105 Moon Library, to the left, inside the old card catalog. The Moon Seed Library collects and provides vegetable, herb, wildflower, and native seeds which have come from seed saving companies, campus gardens, and community members. Seeds are available for free to our campus community with the purpose of promoting resiliency through personal and community gardens, revitalizing native landscapes, and enhancing well-being.
Event: Stewarding Native Ecosystems in your Yard
On Wednesday, April 22nd, 12:00 pm in 300 Bray. Join us for a panel discussion with Sam Quinn from the Restoration Science Center and Neil Patterson from the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment (both are here at SUNY ESF). The panel will talk about ways to use native plant species and indigenous practices in your yard and garden. We will discuss fostering and stewarding native ecosystems right where we live. This event is hosted by the Moon Seed Library.
Event: Plant Walk with Bee Campus USA
On Thursday, April 23, 1:00 pm, meet at the Moon patio. Join us for a walk around campus discovering and learning about the many native plants right here on campus. We will meet and begin our walk at the Moon patio on the quad. Bee Campus USA at ESF is partnering with the Moon Seed Library for this event.
How the Moon Seed Library works:
- Seeds are organized in drawers by edibles or natives and wildflowers, then alphabetically.
- Please take only three (3) packets at a time so that our whole community can enjoy the seed library
- Review the descriptions on the packets and there will be more information coming soon about each plant.
- Plant your seeds and enjoy!
Seed Donations
You're welcome to donate seeds to the seed library, but it is not a requirement to take seeds. Seed donations may be brought to 109-C Moon Library.
Stay tuned for more information on gardening resources, saving seeds, special events and workshops.
Seed and support for this seed library have come from Moon Library, Bee Campus USA at ESF, and the Plant Propagation Club.
