Internet Access

Summary (what you get)

ESF provides internet access to students, faculty, staff, and the community through a variety of wireless networks and one wired network.

Service Includes

Evergreen

This is the wireless network for students, faculty, and staff. Individuals must enter their ESFiD and ESF password to connect to this network. Evergreen is intended to provide faster speeds, access to all the services on the ESF network, and enhanced security. Once connected to Evergreen your device is set and will automatically reconnect wherever you are on campus. Evergreen is available at the Syracuse Campus, Ranger School, Cranberry Biological Station (CLBS), and Warrensburg Pack Forest

ESF-Guest

This is the wireless network for guests and visitors to the Syracuse main campus who need access to the internet. This network will only provide access to the internet and not to any internal ESF resources. If your device loses connection, you will need to reconnect to the network.

Wired

CNS provides wired ports in almost all campus buildings, including student resident halls. This is the most reliable method for staff and faculty to access ESF network resources. Wired network is available at the Syracuse Campus, Ranger School, CLBS, Lafayette Rd, AEC.

Remote Campus Networks

The networks at the remote campuses, if available, are more varied. Some of the campuses, noted above, have similar networks to the Syracuse Campus.

Service Does Not Include

Network access is not available at the following locations:

  • CLBS
    • Student cabins
    • Classrooms 2 & 3
    • Basement of Classroom 1
  • Heiberg
    • Sugar House
    • Classroom 2

Remote Access to ESF Network

Summary (what you get)

ESF provides a variety of resources for students, faculty, and staff to work, teach, and learn remotely. This includes access to ESF resources while in locations without consistent access to cell or internet service or travelling abroad.

We recommend using OneDrive and Teams for the most convenient way to access files from off campus.

Service Includes

  • Network Drive Access through a secure, web-based application. Login to see your H-drive, department drive, M-drive, or Y-drive
  • Cloudflare and Horizon to access administrative applications like Argos and Banner admin pages
  • Multiple options for multi-factor authentication to ensure continued access to DUO
  • Computer loaners for international travel

When you Recieve it

Prior to traveling to a remote research site or internationally you will need to reach out to CNS at least a month prior to leaving to ensure you will have seamless access to ESF resources.

Related Information

When traveling internationally, any ESF device will need to be wiped upon return to campus.

ESF also provides remote computers available for working off campus. Learn more about the remote labs.
