Meet the Faculty - Tim Morin
After serving in the Peace Corps in a wetland village in Guyana, Tim Morin found his path at the intersection of wetlands, climate change, and ecological engineering. Now a faculty member in ESF’s Department of Environmental Resources Engineering, he studies how ecosystems “breathe” — exchanging methane and carbon dioxide with the atmosphere — and what that means for greenhouse gas emissions, sea level rise, and climate resilience. His work bridges environmental engineering and ecosystem science, focusing on how natural systems can be designed and managed to deliver both climate and ecological benefits.
In the classroom, Morin teaches Ecological Engineering to environmental engineering students and leads graduate courses in computer modeling, environmental sensors, and field data analysis, giving students hands-on tools to predict and measure ecological processes. From optimizing wetland management for waterfowl and carbon balance to studying methane dynamics along the Hudson River estuary, this conversation offers a glimpse into how engineering, climate science, and environmental passion come together at ESF.
