Meet the Faculty - Robert Malmsheimer
Bob Malmsheimer’s journey with ESF is one of coming full circle — from student to professor. He shares how a neighbor first introduced him to ESF, sparking a decision that changed his life. After studying landscape architecture and later earning a law degree, Bob realized he wanted to broaden his impact and returned to ESF for a Ph.D. in forest policy.
Now a professor and ESF’s pre-law advisor, Bob is passionate about preparing students to succeed as attorneys, environmental managers, and changemakers. His law classes focus on giving students the practical knowledge they’ll need to navigate complex issues like endangered species protection and land use. Bob believes ESF’s rigorous programs and supportive community empower students to align their education with their goals and prepare to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. For him, teaching isn’t just a job — it’s a privilege, and he finds inspiration in his students’ passion, intelligence, and drive to make the world a better place.
