Director: Writing, Rhetoric, & Communications

Tyler Dorholt is the executive director of Communiations and Marketing, and former director of the Writing, Rhetoric, & Communications Program at ESF, where he still teaches as Assistant Professor. In addition to these roles, Tyler serves advisor of the Digital Storytelling Studio

Tyler holds a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from Columbia College Chicago, where he began teaching writing and rhetoric. He has since taught at both Le Moyne College and Syracuse University. In addition to teaching, he has served various executive assistant roles, both in public and private sectors of communications and health and well-being industries. At Syracuse University, he was the executive assistant to Chancellor Syverud, and before he began his career at ESF he helped launch the University Ombuds office at SU.

Tyler has published both creative and critical work in numerous journals. His first book, American Flowers, a collection of prose poems and photographs, was published in 2016. He received a fellowship from the Poetry Society of America, who published his chapbook Modern Camping. His current interests and projects include work on a novel, poetry, film, and book reviews. He is also focused on research involving how nonfiction and photography work together to expand ideas of place and environment, and how storytelling in the sciences is crucial to the advancement of ideas and communities.
